Charissa Explains it All

The best part about being a blogger is making new friends.  I am always so touched when someone reaches out to me through email or comments, and says they just discovered my blog and they love it!  Recently I was lucky enough to meet Charissa of The Smashbook.  People, she rules.  Her style is impeccable, her blog is HILARIOUS and she is just all around clever.  I love those kind of people.  She wrote a prompt last Friday that totally inspired me.
So, I decided to run with it.  Of course, me being who I am, I had to choose a lyric from my favorite band and my favorite man, Morrissey.

"Does the body rule the mind, or does the mind rule the body?  I don't know"
-Still Ill by the Smiths

When I first discovered the Smiths, I was so young I just knew I like the way the music made me feel.  When I got older, I realized that those feelings had turned into understanding.  I always loved this lyric because it speaks to us so much about human nature and the human psyche.

My pal Autumn from Gypsybee:the blog and I have really been connecting lately, she is a great girl with a true heart.  We've been discussing a lot of body acceptance issues, mostly prompted by the sheer genius of The Nearsighted Owl.  She has been leading an e-course entitled "How to be a Fat Bitch", and it's fantastic, eye-opening stuff.  I think if ideas and movements like this had existed when I was younger, I would of had a lot less issues living in my own skin.

So why does this lyric inspire me?  Because I know there are two kinds of people: those who believe your outsides are more important than your insides, and those who look within to see kindness and character.  We can go even deeper into matters of the heart, or struggles within addiction and ask the exact same question.  So, to quote one of my favorite films, "What kind of bird are YOU?"
